Statement: answering an insurer's follow-up questions about water damage
The situation
Mr Ertl (fictional) reported water damage in his kitchen in January 2026. In a letter dated 24 February 2026 the insurer asked for additional factual details on timing, cause and drying. He wants to answer the four questions factually, completely and in the same order, without giving legal assessments.

Betreff: Stellungnahme zu Ihrem Schreiben vom 24.02.2026 – Schadennummer HH-2026-30887 Sehr geehrte Frau Kroneder, vielen Dank für Ihr Schreiben vom 24.02.2026. Nachstehend beantworte ich Ihre Fragen in der von Ihnen gewählten Reihenfolge. Ich beschränke mich dabei auf die tatsächlichen Umstände. Zu Frage 1 – Zeitpunkt der Feststellung: Den Wasseraustritt habe ich am 21.01.2026 gegen 07:15 Uhr bemerkt, als ich morgens die Küche betrat. Der Bodenbelag vor der Spülmaschine war auf etwa 1,5 Metern durchnässt. Zu Frage 2 – Sofortmaßnahmen: Ich habe um ca. 07:20 Uhr den Zulaufhahn unter der Spüle geschlossen und das Wasser mit Tüchern aufgenommen. Um 08:05 Uhr habe ich die Installationsfirma Hartl & Söhne verständigt, die am selben Tag um 13:30 Uhr vor Ort war. Zu Frage 3 – Ursache nach Auskunft des Fachbetriebs: Laut Bericht der Installationsfirma vom 22.01.2026 war der Zulaufschlauch der Spülmaschine an der Anschlussstelle undicht. Eine eigene Beurteilung der Ursache nehme ich nicht vor; ich gebe ausschließlich den Inhalt des Berichts wieder. Zu Frage 4 – Trocknung und aktueller Zustand: Vom 23.01. bis 04.02.2026 waren zwei Trocknungsgeräte der Firma Hartl & Söhne im Einsatz. Die letzte Feuchtigkeitsmessung am 04.02.2026 ergab laut Protokoll 12 % Restfeuchte im Estrich. Der Küchenunterschrank links neben der Spülmaschine ist an der Sockelleiste weiterhin aufgequollen; er wurde bisher nicht getauscht. Ergänzend lege ich bei: – Bericht der Installationsfirma vom 22.01.2026 – Trocknungsprotokoll vom 04.02.2026 – Vier Lichtbilder vom 21.01.2026 Ich ersuche Sie um Mitteilung, ob Sie mit diesen Angaben weiterarbeiten können oder ob Sie eine Besichtigung des Unterschranks wünschen.
